In The Beginning…

The Year is 2019. Technology is changing and advancing at such a rapid rate that yesterday’s technology may as well be last years. But with all the other constantly changing and pressing issues happening across the world, many people aren’t paying as much attention to technology let alone what can be accomplished with it. It’s not an unreasonable mindset to have when politics is like a reality TV sitcoms, the economy fluctuating between receding and ailing, the climate being extremely out of control, and people spending more time concerned about their image than about what information they are taking in. It’s no wonder that people do not find the time to pay attention to all the things going on in the world of science and technology.

Is it possible these days to take it all in?

Yes, it actually is, but there has to be a system in place in order to do so. Rather than taking in everything separately, it would be much easier to combine different areas together in order to both understand things better, and to take in more information in different areas all at once while still being able to function in an everyday lifestyle.

One of the main ways that technology is accomplishing this is through a concept of IoT (Internet of Things), which is a way to connect devices together through the internet using electronics, mechanics, and software.

Take one of the biggest concerns of our age, The Environment. “Since 1970, the number of disasters worldwide has more than quadrupled to around 400 a year” (The Economist). But many people don’t know that; not because it isn’t public knowledge available to anyone with an internet connection, but because of the desire to know these facts. It becomes so easy to only know bits and pieces of information when that’s what is constantly being fed through apps, screens, and word of mouth. Due Diligence is a mentality that is slowly dying and not intentionally. Yet, the urge to put in the work to discover and learn is no longer being instilled as an important and necessary aspect of growth in our society. Environmental concerns isn’t just about the Earth and its changes, but also the people and conditions that we surround ourselves with.
